If you’ve finished off most of your summer reading list, here are two more that will take your imagination on a figurative holiday to Ireland. It’s been a bumper summer for Irish writing superstars.
The legendary Edna O’Brien released her memoir Country Girl at the beginning of the summer. Her writing is beautiful – as you’d expect – and there are some great stories of her early years and also her celebrity life: read how the 80-year-old O’Brien feels about being kissed by Jude Law. Here’s my review: Country Girl.
Then, just a couple of weeks ago, Roddy Doyle’s follow-up to The Commitments came out. The Jimmy Rabbittes Jr. and Sr. are older, but they’re no less funny than the first time around. Here’s my review of The Guts.
Happy summer reading …
